Kellett Road Incident - 17th May 2012
The recent events in Leasowe (reported here) have been a disturbing and disruptive incident for all involved. I have been in close and regular contact with the police and other emergency services following the evacuation of the Kellett Road area of Leasowe on Wednesday evening.
The substances found within the property have caused a great deal of concern but have now been declared as ‘explosively safe’. I am also relieved to have been told there is absolutely no connection to terrorist activity.
My main concern over the past 24 hours has been for the safety of local people and I have been proud of the community for pulling together in support of each other during this very distressing period.
The emergency services, Wirral Council and the local ward councillors have been on hand with support and assistance to residents and I pay tribute to all of them for their combined efforts.
I will continue to stay in touch with Merseyside police and will keep endeavour to keep my constituents up to date with developments.
