Queen's Speech shows Government is out of ideas - 15th May 2012

Last week’s Queen’s Speech, which set out the Government’s priorities for the coming year, was the Government’s chance to help families dealing with the squeeze in living standards and to promote jobs and growth. But it failed to offer people in Wallasey the sort of practical help that we really need.

This week should have brought measures to help families immediately by addressing the cost of living crisis, tackling rip off prices and creating real jobs for young people.

A good start would have been to drop the millionaire’s tax cut and reversing the unfair granny tax, the pasty tax and tax credit cuts which are hitting working families so hard.

This would have meant a lot to the hundreds of families in Wallasey who will lose out thanks to changes to tax credits.

People want to see Government offering practical, affordable ways to help people right now and get our economy moving again. If Labour were in Government now our Queen’s Speech would have been quite different.

The Government has shown once again that they are out of touch and out of ideas.
